Topical steroids can easily be said one of the most overly prescribed medicines that have some of the least amount of research put into them. These types of steroids can be applied to a wide swath of skin conditions, and some of them will include diseases and disorders such as psoriasis, eczema, acne, dermatitis, and rashes. Does this guarantee their safety however?

Topical steroids are often considered to be safe simply because they are prescribed by doctors, dermatologists, and medical professionals alike. The reason they are so willing to write prescriptions for these medications are because they can potentially change the state of skin conditions.

Topical steroids work as they are easily absorbed into the patient's skin cells. In a nutshell, topical steroids serve to halt the release of numerous inflammation causing chemicals that are normally released when the skin comes into contact with allergens or irritation.

A red, swelling effect takes place if left untreated. This is caused by the inflammation causing chemicals widening the blood vessels. So the advantageous effect is that there is a greatly reduced inflammation caused by the prevention of this release from within the skin. Relief is provided for symptoms such as irritation. The reason topical steroids should be avoided however, is due to the severe side effects the can produce both internally and on the skin.

WHAT MAKES TOPICAL TREATMENTS NOT THE BEST NATURAL AND EFFECTIVE ACNE TREATMENT TO ELIMINATE ACNE INFLAMMATION

There are a long list of internal side effects some of them far worse than others that include:

- Raised blood pressure - Diabetes - Increased aggression - Anaphylactic shock - Birth defects - Blood clotting - Cancer - Cardiovascular disease - Depression - Gynecomastia

With regards to the skin, the side effects are equally as telling. Some of these consequences will entail:

- Skin thinning (atrophy) and stretch marks (striae) - Tearing and bruising of the skin - Enlarged blood vessels (telangiectasia) - Perioral dermatitis (rash around the mouth) - Susceptibility to skin infections - Hiding infection e.g. tinea incognito - Persistent allergies to the steroid cream

As you can see, the list of side effects are far more damaging and life threatening than the original problems topical steroids are intended to remove. The good news is there exists natural acne treatments that are effective for a wide range of skin conditions. These don't come with any side effects, and therefore are much more recommended than topical steroids just for that fact.
