If you suffer from severe acne it isn't uncommon to end up with acne scars. In fact, anyone that has ever had this problem knows that it doesn't matter if a scar is small or large, it can still lead to self esteem issues which is why scar removal should be considered a part of an acne treatment routine.

There are several methods for getting rid of scars. Usually the solution has to do with surgery (excision or grafting) or laser treatments (ablative and non ablative). However, there are also some resurfacing procedures, such as microdermabrasion and scar creams, that can be less bothersome but just as effective.

In choosing an acne scar removal procedure, you will have to consider the location, size, and type of your scar or scars. Small scars, for example can be treated with microdermabrasion or scar creams. Unfortunately, larger scars may require surgery and skin grafting.

Learning How to Deal with Acne Scars

In order to prevent the appearance of acne scars you first need to follow a regular cleansing routine, which includes a good acne cream. Keep in mind that acne conditions that haven't been treated correctly can develop into severe acne scarring, however, if your acne condition is already severe there may be little you can do to prevent their formation.

Acne scarring can be treated either with resurfacing or surgical techniques. Again, the method you choose will depend on the location and extent of your scar tissue. Here is a short list that describes some of the most popular procedures used to treat acne scars.

Punch Excision for Acne Scars

Punch excisions are usually used to treat deep, atrophic scars such as ice pick scars. This procedure requires the use of a special tool to "punch out" the area where the scar is located. After having removed the scar tissue, the edges of the excised skin are sutured together.

Laser Therapy and Acne Scars

Perhaps the best type of laser treatment for scars is fractional laser therapy. This type of laser therapy will bypass the epidermis and work on the deeper layers of the skin. This helps improves the appearance of the skin without leaving many (if any) visible signs of treatment.

Scar Creams and other Skin Care Products

Natural skin care creams and traditional skin care products can be equally effective in your fight against acne scars, however, you need to make sure you choose products that can help dissolve scar tissue and promote the production of collagen. Some of the most effective natural ingredients include rose hip seed oil and snail serum.

Rose hip oil can be used in its natural, oil form. It can also be found in a variety of skin care products including scar creams.
